Solution

Once our survey work is complete, we turn to considering the effects of the project on the biodiversity value of the site and how negative effects can be minimised or avoided. As well as the direct effects of habitat loss, hydrological change within and outside the site, noise generation, lighting, dust, human presence and other factors can impinge of wildlife and we have long experience in working with specialists in other disciplines who may form part of the client's team to resolve these problems.

With over 20 years in the business we have produced EcIA’s in support of planning applications in every area of the British Isles including the Republic of Ireland. We have provided mitigation packages, in many cases using methods of our own design, to successfully solve a wide range of problems including:

  • The translocation of entire plant communities and hedgerows.
  • The design, submission and successful implementation of European Protected Species development licences for:
    • great crested newts;
    • smooth snakes;
    • hazel dormice; and
    • 11 species of bats in tree and house roosts.
  • The design, submission and successful implementation of Natural England licences to exclude badgers from setts, with subsequent sett destruction.
  • Providing Appropriate Assessments of developments potentially affecting Special Protection Areas and Special Areas of Conservation.
  • Appearing as expert witness in a number of Public Inquiries involving developments affecting European Sites.
  • Writing restoration schemes and wildlife management plans for a wide variety of developments.

Throughout the last 20 years we have provided advice and guidance to a wide range of clients in an equally diverse range of industries, never forgetting the client's aims, and being mindful of the cost implications of every action we have proposed.
